Remembrance

By Margaret Roncone

When cedars loosen
their green hold on you

when skylarks write
your name in cursive
across heaven

when red tulips remind
you of the lipstick
your mother wore

when the riling sea
nudges your spirit awake

when you hear the
wind whisper your
grandmother's name

please remember to tell
me you listened.

Margaret Roncone was born and raised in Rochester, N.Y. She now makes her home on Vashon Island where exquisite natural beauty is a perennial inspiration. She is the current poet laureate of Vashon.
