Veronica & Angel
I've been socially involved in one way or another through charity and volunteer work encouraged by my family as a child, leading to being more politically educated and involved as a teenager. My focus in my involvement has always been centred around education and art in some way, from working for education-based nonprofits in college to being involved in the local DIY music scene of Tucson, Arizona. Moving to Seattle after college, I have found community involvement through my work as administrative assistant at Cascadia Poetics Lab. This has been a really fulfilling experience, as my job revolves around bringing people together in the name of poetry and our environment, and I have been continuing to work with CPL to plan community events that are welcoming and accessible to all demographics. Last fall, my partner and I established our own magazine called Disposable Parts, which provides a physical space for local journalism and for artists to share their work unapologetically. Since the November election, I have put my heart and soul into Disposable Parts to establish it as source for independent journalism and mutual aid, joined the BREATHE team, attended the HANDS OFF protest in downtown Seattle, and have gotten involved with the tenants union of my apartment building to help ensure the neighbors, including myself, are familiar each other and with the laws that protect us from any mistreatment and negligence by our building management. Overall, finding ways to be involved with other passionate members of various communities has helped in not only taking a stand against the actions of the federal government, but also in finding camaraderie and togetherness amidst all of this. We are always stronger united together than apart. My partner, Angel and I, holding our first edition of Disposable Parts, which featured art and writing from over 20 contributors worldwide.
